What Changes will my Body Undergo?
Week 27 indicates that you have been pregnant for almost seven months now. There’s not much you have to wait for now.
However, pregnancy is not butterflies and rainbows. As your body adjusts to growing your baby, you might experience mental and physical exhaustion. It is common and can often be extremely draining.
As the baby grows and your body stretches internally to accommodate them, the symptoms of pain and discomfort increase with it. It is during this week that your doctor will test for gestational diabetes. The test is generally done between Weeks 24-and 28.

What changes will my baby undergo?
Surprisingly enough, week 27 is when your baby’s brain is almost developed and packed with the necessary neural connections. The neurons and synapses are forming at a rapid rate inside the brain.
Unlike week 26, by week 27, your baby’s lungs are developing and maturing more and more, preparing them to breathe using them once they are delivered finally. In addition, the tiny air sacs or alveoli in the lungs are starting to mature as well.
By week 27, your baby can survive outside the womb if complications arise and premature delivery is involved.
Your baby is also a lot more active by this week. So, if you feel a stunted movement, consult your doctor about it.
What kind of symptoms will I experience?
As you near your third trimester and eventual delivery date, things can become more unsettling than you expect. Don’t worry, though, because the symptoms will get better eventually. Some common symptoms in week 27 include:
- Physical exhaustion
- Tiredness and fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Swelling in the feet, ankles
- Lack of sound sleep
- Healthy weight gain
- Breast enlargement

What should I prepare for this week?
By this week, you might feel physically and mentally exhausted from everything. However, it’s common and very manageable with a few self-care tips.
- As your breasts grow, switch your standard bras with more comfortable and supportive bras.
- Try to sleep in positions in which you feel comfortable. Get hold of a maternity pillow, if needed.
- Since your baby’s weight is gaining gradually, avoid standing for prolonged periods.
- Keep yourself hydrated throughout the week to avoid painful defecation due to hemorrhoids.
- Maintain an active lifestyle with exercise and yoga to regulate your digestive system.
- If you feel uncomfortable and achy all over, try a relaxing bath with bath salts.
